Waiting On Death

Would that death come gently,

Descending in a quiet release;

A soul and heart so kind:

A Love spent, now fades,

Between the places of the dark,

A sleep of disturbing silence,

Breath so shallow, but present,

Eyes closed, still and dreamless,

One Life’s clock silently ticks:

Cells singing their own dirge,

Struggling against all odds,

Each breath, an act of Will,

As Love performs its Drama,

And spirits call in secret voices:

Whispers unheard by the Living,

Urging their good friend Home…
