Campout date idea for the millennial couple

We get it. Life gets in the way of things. Almost all the time.

You’re right. All the time.

Going on dates with your spouse or significant other can really take the back burner once you’ve been together for a while. When you’re a new honeymooner — it’s crazy easy to put all of your ideas into the next big date and excursion. You’ll go out, spend some major cash, stay out late — all to impress your sweet love.

Then time goes by, and you get comfortable. Your both busy — hustling, from taking care of your kids, killin’ it at work, to meal-prepping for the next day. Life doesn’t stop.

But there is something significant about dating your spouse even after being 5, 15, 50 years of being together. Love is something you have to put effort into. No matter how many years it’s been. Love is hard work. But it’s worth it.

So in the spirit of love month (February!) we thought we’d put together a home date idea. This one’s for you if you’re a young millennial couple trying to make ends meet, or if you just need a home run idea that looks like you had put in a lot of thought and planning into it.

I asked some of my (very busy!) friends (Mads & Dave) to try to take a night, be intentional, and see what happens!

So, here you go!

Our go to idea was to pull out the fire pit and roast marshmallows in our backyard. Then, on second thought, it’s February and the last thing we wanted to do was freeze our butts off. Also, not everyone has access to a backyard let alone a fire pit. SO, we took it indoors to our living room!

ONE.
Pitch a tent
— This did require a bit of effort but what tent doesn’t? Just grab the biggest sheet you can find and hang it from something on your ceiling, or install a hook to suspend it from.

TWO.
Food
Everyone knows a party isn’t complete without something tasty to munch on. Our “thing” is cheese and crackers. We could probably live off a good wheel of brie cheese on crispy Melba rounds, topped with a mango habanero spread. However, maybe your thing is mac & cheese, pizza or focaccia bread dipped in olive oil with balsamic glaze. Whatever floats your boat!
