How to access spotify in Africa or anywhere

I know first you are thinking how come that there’s a country that is cut off from the awesomeness of Spotify. But spotify does do that, I am kinda tempted to call it racism but I get it. It’s all about demographics and Digital Rights Management.

The answer is simple to anyone used to accessing region restricted services, a VPN. VPN stands for virtual private network and works by re-routing your data to appear as originating from a different location. Basically a different IP address is provided to the website or service you are accessing. Click the link below to learn more.

There are various free VPN apps available for Android, Ios equivalents are available but in my experience it is almost impossible to download Spotify from App store unless you are actually in a country that Spotify is legally available. There is the option of side loading apps but you need to jailbreak your iPhone first so that’s upto you.

Top of the list would have to be TunnelBear VPN. It’s not the perfect free VPN app generally but it’s amazing when interested specifically with accessing Spotify. It limits the data routed through the VPN to 500 MB but this is more than enough since you only need to access the VPN at most thrice a Month for Spotify to work. Spotify requires that you access it from a Spotify allowed region at least every 14 days so you are only required to use the VPN at least every 14 days and this does not necessarily need to be more than a just a few minutes. I find it easier to just login into the VPN every Saturday, or whatever works for you.

Another great VPN app is Touch VPN, which does not limit the amount of data that you route through it though it disconnects about every 1 hour.

Beware that Play Store is full of useless VPN apps, feel free to explore other apps but be ready to be disappointed.

A plus of accessing Spotify from a restricted region is that there are no advertisements since advertising these days is region targeted. Though when the VPN is on you will get the adverts from that region. Or you could just go for the premium package and do away with ads altogether.

If you like the Spotify phone experience try the desktop app or Ipad app for Ios which offers on-demand music for Free. There’s also higher bitrate music but you have to have near perfect hearing to notice the difference unless you have some quality head phones.
