Are College Athletes Getting Paid?

In discussions of compensation for college athletes, a particular point of disagreement has been whether or not college athletes should be paid for their hard work. Some people argue that college athletes have no time to work and therefore should be paid, while others contend that college athletes already receive compensation by not having to pay for college tuition. However, the best approach would be to pay athletes for their contributions to the N.C.A.A. College athletes should be paid because they work so hard and put their lives on the line. With all the athletes’ time going towards their sports and studies they have no time to find a job or work to pay for anything. Some of these athletes do not have scholarships to help pay for college. This can lead to an increasing amount of debt because no income is earned to pay for college. Would you not want the college to pay you in some way to compensate for not having a job? College athletes should receive compensation payment for putting hard work into their university.

College athletes are aware of the problem but are not making a move or step to change. The time that they dedicate to their sport is equivalent to the time someone has to put into a job, if not more. Only one-third of college athletes receive a scholarship, the majority of those are partial, and only one percent of all college athletes make it to the pros. The problem is no one figured out how or who gets what? Top players should get the same as benched players? Someone needs to take a stand and make a movement. Players should be allowed to earn money off their names and athletic ability. The N.C.A.A makes money off of each student-athlete while the athlete receives no compensation for his or her work. It is a mistake to not pay college athletes. N.C.A.A. Needs to pay students athletes. They should have some of their salaries cut in order to give student-athletes a specific amount of money, should have some salaries cut in order to give the student-athletes a specific amount of money for each semester they participate in a sport. College athletes deserve financial recognition for the merchandise profit they generate, as well as the opportunity to pursue their own financial gains. As athletes, they work hard on the field every day to bring in fans and wins for their school, it is only fair that they are rewarded for their efforts, at least in some small way.
